College Hill was established in 1962 and provides English medium education in the Foundation Phase with classes ranging from Grade R to Grade 3.
The school is situated in Uitenhage and traditionally serves the residential areas of Mosel, Levyvale, Vanes Estate, Strelitzia Park, Fairbridge Heights, van Riebeekhoogte and Central Uitenhage. Learners residing in other residential areas are admitted depending on the available space.
College Hill has its roots in Muir College and Riebeek College, having originated when the Junior Primary departments of these two schools were amalgamated to form a separate school serving the Foundation Phase.
Originally housed in the old Riebeek College building on the corner of Church Street and Cannon Street, now the Municipal Clinic. The play areas bordered Maginnis Park. The old buildings soon became inadequate to house and provide for the play areas required by young learners.
In 1975 the school moved to a new building in North Street, Mosel; the current site of the school.
A first pre-primary class opened in 1986 with two further privately funded and registered classes created in 1991 and 1994.
The school badge depicts emblems from the town of Uitenhage incorporated with emblems, which appear on the Riebeek College and Muir College school badges. Thus the white cross of Uitenhage taken from the De Mist Coat of Arms, coupled with the Riebeek bee and rampant Muir lion, unite to form the College Hill school badge.
The founding Principal, Dr G.E (Jean) van Onselen served the school with dedication from 1962 – 1972 and was succeeded by Mesdames M Morris 1972 – 1980 (March) and R Strachan 1980 (April) – 1987 (June).
The current Principal Ms E Basson assumed duty in October 1987.
